Gym club is run by Premier Sports on Wednesday after school.
Gym club have been thinking about shapes they can make with their bodies. In these pictures they had a sheet of diagrams and the names of the shapes they could make and they had a go. Mr Cahill helped demonstrate with them how to do it safely. The children then combined the moves and demonstrated them to the other children and they had to try and guess which they were.
Term 1 2016-17
Gym club have been working hard on hand stands, cartwheels and balancing. They found that hand stands aren't as easy as they thought and they needed really strong straight arms.
For term 6 the gym club have been thinking about the Road To Rio and have been taking part in Olympic type sports. They have been running, jumping and doing different types of balls skills. In these pictures they were practising ball skills and trying to hit their partners cones, which takes precision and good control. They then took part in relay type races and had to weave in between the cones, hop over them and move backwards through them - that was quite tricky!
This term in gym the children have been doing more floor work, which included doing star cartwheels. They have been busy using the vault and getting better with doing their squat on and even managing to get their feet up this term. They have started doing some rhythmic work using scarfs. They have also been working on some conditioning exercises such as the dish, arch front support and back supports.
In gym this term the children have been practising forward and backward rolls. For a front roll they need to start with a tall stretch then do the roll and finish it with a stretch to stand. Front rolls are quite easy but backward rolls are certainly a bit more tricky!
They have also this term been doing bench work and finding different ways of moving across it. Also they have been using the vault and making sure that they move onto it correctly with hands and feet on and different jumps to move off. At the end of the session they like to play the game river jump.
Each week there is someone that gets the star of the day award for good work, this time it was for good listening skills.
In gym this term the children have been doing different types of floor work. But first each week they need to make sure they do a good warm up and they love galloping around the hall. When they are warmed up they go on to do different moves such as bridge shapes with their bodies, bunny jumps, log rolls and forward and backward rolls, thinking about their landing shapes and trying hand stands and cartwheels. They sometimes use some of the equipment and have been learning how to carry they mats correctly. They have also used the vaults and doing a squat onto it. When using the benches they have been doing side steps, dipped walking, tuck jumps and practising turning around on them.
Term 1 2015-16
Gym club this term have been concentrating on floor work, which involves rolls - such as forward rolls and log rolls. Different jumps such as tuck, star, half turn and full turn jumps.
They have been practising with the equipment and how to safely get on and off, they do a squat jump on, then do a star jump off and think very carefully about the landing position - it is quite tricky!
