Our harmonica club runs on Monday lunchtimes by Adele from Harpschool.
The harmonica group have been learning to read musical notes and recognise how long each note lasts for. They have been trying really hard with their playing, and they have been chugging and learning Hakuna Matata. During collective worship the children have a favourite song -Shine Jesus Shine, and with Adeles help they worked out the notes and have done really well at playing the song on their harmonicas.
Adele is looking to recruit more harmonica players if you are interested please see their website at http://www.harpscool.co.uk
Term 1 2016-17
This term the harmonica club are preparing for a harmonica festival being held by Harpscool at the Bristol Folk House. At this event all the other clubs in the area will be getting together to play When the saints go marching in. There will also be prizes for anyone that takes part in the competition and gets up to play a piece on their own.
Harmonica club have been doing chugging this term - which is where they say words on their harmonicas. They have also been playing some more current songs including Uptown Funk and have just started learning how to play along to Bills
In Harmonica lessons this term the children have been learning new tunes to play which included Isee your true colours and uptown funk but their favourite one was the Star Wars theme. Adele has also been recording their playing and playing it back to them so they can hear how well they are doing and what they can get better at. They have also been playing a listening game to help them hear more sounds. In these pictures they had to guess who had taken the keys from under the chair.
As the harmonica club have had lots of new members recently they have been going over basics and practising playing on their 4 hole harmonicas. The tune that they have been trying really hard to learn this term is 'Love me do' by the Beetles.
Harmonica club have been practising hard learning Twinkle Twinkle Little Star this term for their performance at Carols by Candlelight in Christ Church. For most of them it was their first public performance and they played extremely well and were very brave!
Term 1 2015-16
The harmonica group has got off to a great start this term with lots of new members. They have been learning all about their harmonicas and how you use your body whilst playing them - hands to hold them, eyes to read music and ears to listen. Another important part with playing the harmonica is controlling your breath to play it, with drawing and blowing.
They are now moving on to trying to play Twinkle Twinkle.
