Term 5 - Thankfulness

Week beginning 23rd April 2019

This term our Christian Value is Thankfulness. We launched the value by going to the Church and Helen Buick taught the children about the story of Jesus and the 10 Lepers. Helen used Lego to explain to the children how Jesus healed all 10 lepers but only one said thank you. This week we also learnt about St. George’s day and how he defeated the dragon

Week beginning 29th April 2019

This week we talked to the children about giving thanks to the many staff who have vital roles in our school that make sure it all runs smoothly and safely for the children from our caretaker to our kitchen staff.

Week beginning 7th May 2019

This week we heard about Bob Hartman’s story ‘Thank you God’ and talked about how Christians believe that every part of creation praises God. Our brilliant GLOW team also acted out the story of the 10 Lepers and were very good at pretending they had Leprosy. Harry was also incredible as Jesus! We welcomed our new GLOW (Group Leading Our Worship); Seb, Kaytlin, Tavish, Amelie, Hattie and Henry. Belinda Stowe is looking forward to their help next week in our worship. On Thursday the children heard the story ‘Being thankful’ by Mercer Mayer.

Week beginning 13th May 2019

This week in Collective Worship we thought about saying Grace to show that we are thankful for having lovely food each day and never having to go hungry. We talked about other children who may not be so lucky and how so much food is wasted when people are starving. Belinda Stowe, one of our Foundation Governors, led our worship on Tuesday and shared David’s thankful prayers with the whole school. This is the prayer the GLOW team read out and other children who wanted to could say thank you to God.

I look at the stars and the moon at night

The sun as it shines every day

The world you have made is amazing

It makes me want to say… Thank you God

I think of my body and how it all works

In such a wonderful way.

Each person you’ve made is amazing.

It makes me want to say… Thank you God

You care for me just like a shepherd,

Each day as I work and play

You love us so much it’s amazing It makes me want to say… Thank you God

On Thursday we shared the Hindu story of Manu and the Flood and the children really liked the links they spotted between that and some Christian Bible stories such as Adam and Eve and Noah’s Ark.
