Term 2 - Compassion

Week beginning 4th November 2019

This week we had a lovely whole school story around an artificial bonfire by fairy light launching our new topic brilliantly. We also had our termly visit to Christ Church for Helen Buick to launch our Christian Value of Compassion with the story of The Good Samaritan. Bible Club also taught the children some actions to remember the Lord’s Prayer. On Thursday we learnt about Remembrance Sunday and the children really demonstrated their understanding of Compassion.

Week beginning 11th November 2019

This week we have been fortunate enough to welcome Belinda Stowe and Reverend Vickery from Christ Church to lead a worship each. Belinda brought her puppy puppet Jack and the GLOW team helped the school to say the words ‘May I see how others feel, may I listen to what they say, may my words be always kind and my hands do good today.’ Reverend Vickery talked to the children about forgiveness and taught the children a song, which they really enjoyed. He also explained to them what it meant to be a vicar. Then I am sorry to say but we did start to practice our Nativity songs even though it is still November!

Week beginning 18th November 2019

This week we have been exploring Compassion further and really started to unpick the actions of the Good Samaritan and why the others in the story may not have stopped to help. The children had some brilliant ideas about this and we were horrified that anyone wouldn't. The behaviour has been brilliant in our worship this week and the children have really enjoyed re-learning the school prayer and school values song.

Week beginning 25th November 2019

This week we have been learning about St. Andrew the patron saint of Scotland as it is St. Andrew's Day on Saturday. We also thought carefully about ways we can show compassion to people we don't know.

Week beginning 2nd December 2019

This week we decorated our school Christmas tree with our own hand-made decorations and welcomed our Christian Churches Team to act out the Nativity story using puppets. We also welcomed a representative from the Mother’s Union who very kindly gave each Reception child a copy of the story.

Week beginning 9th December 2019

This week we have mostly been learning about the nativity story and thought about how the Innkeeper showed compassion to Mary and Joseph. We have also been practising our nativity songs and the children are sounding amazing!
