We started off our wonder days with a visit from Mr G's science show and it was amazing! Visit the Recent events page to see the photos and a video clip of Mrs Martin being very, very brave.
Finally work has started on the new playground equipment! We will be having a proper opening event on the 7th June so please come along and join us to try out all the new equipment.
Today the Y2 children visited a Sikh Gurdwara. They all covered their heads and took their shoes off as a mark of respect when they arrived. The children were led into a big hall where they met the Sikh priest. He was sat on a stool by the Holy Book which is placed on a throne so it can be kept clean. The children asked questions about why the world is so important to Sikhs and then they had a tour of the Gurdwara. They even got to see where the Holy Book is put to bed in a real bed every night! Then the children had a drink and biscuit very kindly provided by the Gurdwara before it was time to head back to school. Huge thanks to Mrs Jenkins for organising this valuable experience so that children can understand more about difference in beliefs and traditions.
To celebrate the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Megan Markle we all came to school dressed in red, white and blue. We also had a wedding themed picnic out on the field for lunch, many thanks to Jo, the kitchen staff and the lunch break team for making this happen.
Today we were lucky enough to welcome Nik Whiteside to our Collective Worship so that he could share his experience of the Marathon Des Sables and so we could say a huge thank you. He also presented us with a very large cheque for £3500 which we plan to spend on an outdoor music system and staging so the children can do dance, drama and role play at lunchtimes and some loose play equipment. The children were completely inspired by Nik who is our absolute hero.
We had the first of two visits today from Hedgehog Rescue. Yvonne talked to the children about how hedgehogs are becoming endangered and what we can do to help them. She showed us a bad garden and a good garden and how you can build a hedgehog house. She even brought in a real live hedgehog for us to see which was really exciting! She will be back next Thursday to talk to the rest of the classes that didn't see her today, please remember to bring in a £1 donation to help support her. For more information on how you can support hedgehogs please visit https://www.hedgehogstreet.org/
