  • Crocodile Class - Practising with clay and textures

Thu 31 Mar 2022 Mr Jones

Crocodiles have been using a variety of tools to make different textures in clay for their enquiry lesson this week. They then practised making an animal using those textures, ready for their final challenge lesson next week. They had a brilliant time and we were so impressed with their focus and attention to detail.

Now for the clean up Miss Essex...!

  • A caring community - EYFS learning about how animals grow

Wed 30 Mar 2022 Mrs Martin

This week our EYFS children have been learning even more about how animals grow so that they can answer their enquiry question ‘how can we care for pets?’ They have been using a special torch to monitor the growth of the chicks, spotting things like blood vessels and have been learning about what chicks need whilst inside their eggs like the warmth of the incubator.

They have also been caring for pets in their vet role play areas, caring for farm animals in their small world play and planting their own seeds to learn what plants need to stay healthy too.

Miss Robbins - thank you so much for organising the eggs and incubator, the children are learning so much from this!

  • Official opening of our new play area

Thu 24 Mar 2022 Mr Jones

We officially opened our new play area this week with the help of some of our fantastic Friends, key event organisers Luke and Mark and Councillors Ben Burton, James Griffiths and Liz Brennan.

So many of you came to join us as we said thank you to the many children who did sponsored events, to you for fundraising at Friends events, the Friends for their incredible fundraising and the Councillors for donating some of their Member’s grants.

Thank you for making the atmosphere a wonderful one and making this a special memory for everyone. The children have loved using the new equipment and have behaved really sensibly, showing respect to each other.

We have various rotas to help us manage this, which are in Giraffe Class window in case your children want to check whose turn it is in the morning. We have given the Y2s some extra sessions as they don’t have too much longer left with us.

Classes will also use this throughout the day when their classes have their extra 10 minutes of DPA (daily physical activity).

  • Book Week @ CCI

    Fri 04 Mar 2022 G Jones

Wow! What an amazing week we have had celebrating reading, sharing books and being inspired by authors and their stories.

We started the week with Amy Wilson coming to teach us all about being an author – she inspired us to create our own worlds and characters. She reminded us how important it is to keep going at writing a story, rewriting and editing it as we go.

Thanks to CCJ we have been able to visit their library (while Downend library has been closed!) – We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about how to find books that we like in a library.
We loved our film night and I am so pleased that we can now use the funds raised to get more reading books for the children to read at school – thank you to everyone who supported this event!
We loved World Book day on Thursday and thank you all for making such an effort with costumes – the kids had a fabulous day being inspired by a range of authors from around the world.

We have so enjoyed having many parents into school to share their favourite books – it has been great to hear different people read stories to us in our classes so thank you to those who could support us by doing this.

We finished our week off with our reading café on Friday morning and we loved reading in groups with adults in our classes. We have learnt so much and, more importantly, we have had time to immerse ourselves in great stories – taking us to different worlds and inspiring us in so many ways.

Mrs Martin has had the most difficult job of the week trying to decide who could win our book scene competition – we think that all of the children are winners as they have all put so much effort into their scenes and we can see straight away which story each is representing! Each time I have walked into the hall this week I have seen children and adults admiring them all. Thank you all for the support we have had this week to support our book week and to enable us to inspire a love of book in all of our children. Bring on next year!
