  • Reminder about Sports Day

    Mon 14 Jun 2021

A couple of parents have asked if parents can come to watch sports day this year but I’m afraid that we will just be holding this event for children and staff this year.  Most local schools are doing the same and it is so that we do not have large groups of parents together around staff and children with still so much uncertainty with new variants.  It is so important to us that staff are protected and with hundreds of parents attending sports day it feels as though we would be compromising their safety unnecessarily.

  • Perform Workshop

    Mon 14 Jun 2021

We were very pleased to receive a visit from Perform a few weeks ago. The children had a wonderfully energetic time exploring the theme of ‘Under the Sea’ and using drama, dance and singing to help develop their confidence, concentration and social skills. Perform run regular weekly classes in the local area and they are offering a special introductory discount to all parents of Christ Church Infant School if they come along for a free trial session before Thursday 17th June - i.e. just over one week's time.

To claim your discount, just call Perform on 020 7255 9120 quoting CCHF170621 or visit perform.org.uk to find out more.

  • Christian Value of the term – RESPECT

    Mon 14 Jun 2021

This term our Christian Value is Respect. We link this to the Bible story of Ruth and Naomi.  This term we will be encouraging the children to think about why self-respect is important, who the children respect and why they deserve that respect, how it makes people feel when you don’t show respect and what are the different ways we can show respect.  We will be drawing on lots of real life examples and stories from the bible and other faiths and sources to help the children to understand this.

  • Mrs Martin’s weekly update

    Mon 14 Jun 2021

It has been wonderful to welcome the children back to school this week to a really exciting topic and in fantastic weather. The Sporting Superstars launch day was fantastic and the children in EYFS loved competing in lots of different races and relays and hearing about which sporting stars their staff respect and admire.

In KS1 it became a highly competitive affair where each class tried to beat the 3 teacher challenges that had been set by Mrs Rylands, Miss Gould and Mr Jones.  They all looked exhausted (the staff especially!!!) but very, very happy by the end of the first day back.  I’d like to say thank you to you all for remembering the sports clothes on the first day back and to the staff for making this such a fun return for the children.

  • Mrs Poole retiring.

    Mon 14 Jun 2021

Mrs Poole, who works as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant in Giraffe Class, will also be retiring at the end of this academic year as she turned 60 last September.  After 21 wonderful years at CCI she has decided to step back from her role as a HLTA and will be enjoying lots of travelling, gardening and cooking.  More on Mrs Poole at the end of the year but for now let’s enjoy our last term with her.

  • Staggered drop-off and pick-up – changes for Term 6

    Mon 14 Jun 2021

    We will be continuing with a staggered school day to encourage fewer people on the school site at once but, just like CCJ, we will be changing this slightly for Term 6.  From Monday 7th June please follow the follow the guidance below;

All children will now need to arrive at school between 8.50am and 9.00am.  Tiger Class will need to enter the classroom from the front playground like Panda and Lion classes do.

All children will need to be collected between 3.05pm and 3.15pm.

CCJ will be doing 8.45-8.55am for drop-off and 3.15-3.25pm for pick-up so if you have children at both schools please make sure you make these timings work for you.  You should no longer need to drop earlier than 8.50am or collect children after 3.15pm as the schools have liaised on this together to make it work for all.

If you will be collecting a child before 3.15pm because you have to go to CCJ to collect please let your child’s class teacher know so that we can make sure children are ready. It will really help us if you keep this routine the same each day.

All families must drop off and pick-up quickly just as you do now.  This will help reduce people on site. It also helps with just one adult per family.

We will be encouraging you all too still enter through the front gate and leave through the back gate.  This one-way system has worked brilliantly and has really prevented congestion outside Crocodile Class and parents having to walk too close together.

Parents with children at CCJ can of course continue to use the front gate for all access to travel more quickly between the schools.

Even if you do see some families using the wrong gate or walking the wrong way, if you have time please follow the system we have asked, as even if most people follow the guidance it will help.

Face masks are still required by all adults on site unless they are exempt.  Staff will continue to wear these when greeting families and around the school but most will not wear them in classrooms.

  • Class photos

    Wed 09 Jun 2021

Whole class photos tomorrow - we’ll make sure classes don’t swim before theirs don’t worry!

We have asked that any children who missed their individual photos due to isolating or illness earlier in the year can have one tomorrow but will have to see how we go with time.

If they have PE or swimming children should still wear uniform. EYFS can wear swimmers underneath and Cheetahs can change later. Children doing PE can just do it in their uniform as a one-off as most parents prefer them to be in uniform for photos.

Best smiles and hair styles at the ready!

  • School uniform suppliers

    Wed 09 Jun 2021

We know that there is a lot of talk around Monkhouse on social media and being really slow at getting orders to us etc.

With regards to this, I have been working with a local supplier and they will have a webpage ready for us by Friday, which we will share on the newsletter, they will have logo'd  uniforms available and will offer free delivery to school.

This will mean we will have three options for logo'd uniform:

    Monkhouse

    UnicornWorkwear

    MYClothing

As well as the non-branded supermarket clothes.  We hope that this works for all families in that all uniform is then considered to be suitable for every child.
