  • Soup run

    Wed 04 Dec 2019
Our value of the term is Compassion and we have been thinking about how we can help people.  So we have been making soup, sandwiches and cakes for homeless people.  Helen Buick from Christ Church has been into school and collected the food and has taken it to the Bristol soup run organisers to be distributed.  The children have enjoyed being able to help others.  Many thanks to Helen, the Co-Op and Sainsburys in Downend for supplying the ingredients for the soup and cakes.

    Christmas Cards

In an attempt to be more environmentally friendly, we would like the children to send just one Christmas card this year to their whole class. This removes the problem of some children not getting as many cards as others, and also encourages our children to look after the environment.  Your children can bring their card in from the 2nd December and it will be displayed within their classroom. Please do not send your child in with Christmas cards for anyone else. If your child does want to send cards to their other friends, this will need to be done outside school.

    Letters to Father Christmas 5.12.19

Thursday 5th  December 2019 5.30-6.30pm. This is for our infant children and you may find it easier to leave siblings at home.  However, if childcare is an issue they are very welcome. Starting in your childs classroom there will be a story then the children will write a letter to Father Christmas. The letter can then be posted in our magic post box in the hall. Children are welcome to wear pyjamas but they don’t need to.

The Friends Breakfast with Santa 7.12.19

The Friends will be holding a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday morning, information has already been sent out via the Friends.

    Carols by Candlelight 10.12.19

Carols by Candlelight will be held in the church, on Tuesday 10th December from 6-7pm.  This is an event for the whole family so please come along and join us in singing a variety of Christmas songs and carols.  It is usually a lovely event and we would love to see as many of you as possible.

    Christ Carol Service 12.12.19

The choir will be going to a carol service at Churchill Retirement Living on Maywood Crescent in Fishponds, at 10.30am, parents and carers have already been notified, parent helpers will be required, please let Miss Gould know if you can help.

    The Friends Christmas Wrap 13.12.19

The Friends will be holding their Christmas wrap on Friday 13th December. This will be held in the morning, 9-12pm. Children will purchase presents for their grown-ups.  Look out for the details on newsletters and the Facebook page.  They will need volunteers and it is a lovely event!

Christmas Nativity Year 1 and Year 2

The performances will take place on: Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th December.  All performances will start at 2pm.

All Y1 and Y2 children will take part in each performance but Year 1 children will be taking the main character parts, with Year 2 children singing songs.  Reception will not be taking part in the event.  They will be going to church to watch on a different day.  Year 1 parents will be seated downstairs and Y2 upstairs.

Tickets will be limited to 5 per family in total but you can split your request to one per day if that is more convenient.  Pre-school children will not need a ticket.   As the church has so much more flexible space we are not as restricted on space, which is lovely.

If you would like tickets, please complete the section on parent pay.  Your tickets will be sent home with your child, in their book bags.  Please keep them safe. As they will need to be presented at the door on the day of the performance. There will be a suggested donation of £1 for each ticket.

    Reception Sing-a-Long Coffee Morning 19.12.19

We feel it is too much for our YR children to sit through the performances in church. We wish to make it a more intimate Christmas event for our Reception children, so on the 19th December at 9.15am we will invite parents/carers in to school for coffee and tea (cake donations would be appreciated) with the children singing Christmas Carols. A £1 per person ticket donation would be appreciated, maximum 2 tickets per child.  As we know it is expensive, we do not expect children to have bought Christmas jumpers, but if you have some accessories, hats, tinsel etc. that would be terrific.

    Christmas Dinner 19.12.19

Christmas dinner will be on Thursday 19th December. The menu will be displayed in the office window, as well as on the school Newsletter. This is for the CHILDREN only.

    Christmas Parties 20.12.19

The Christmas parties will be on Friday 20th December in the afternoon.  All children may wear suitable non-uniform clothes to school that day but please bear in mind that they do need to go outside at playtime and lunchtime (including footwear). This year we will not be asking for donations of food from parents/carers. We will be having an entertainer in the hall and will provide every child with a cake and drink. Children with food allergies etc. will be catered for.

  • Van Gogh Stars at Christ Church

    Mon 18 Nov 2019
With our topic being Under the Stars this term, the children all painted their own versions of Starry Night by Van Gogh.  These were then displayed at Christ Church during their coffee morning on Friday for everyone to see.  We think they looked totally amazing!

  • Under the stars topic launch

    Mon 04 Nov 2019
Today we launched our new topic for this term of 'Under the stars' and all the children and staff came in dressed in their pyjamas .  We had a super day making all types of stars and listening to stories.  Mrs Martin even held Collective Worship around a bonfire (pretend one) in the hall!
  • End of term

    Fri 25 Oct 2019
We have had a fantastic last week of term and there are lots of photos of our trip to the Wild Place and our House team challenge day in the Recent events section.  Enjoy the holidays.
  • Term 1 updates

    Thu 17 Oct 2019

Tomorrow you should receive a letter/slip telling you what coloured ‘house’ your child is in. There are 4 houses - red, green, blue and yellow and the children are put into these for events like sports day and to earn housepoints.  Once the children are out in a house they usually remain in that one unless new classes are imbalanced and we try to put siblings in the same coloured houses.

Next Thursday (the last day of term) we would like the children to wear a top to school in their given colour so that they can really get to know which colour house they are in and to have some fun activities in their teams. They will also need these t-shirts later in the year for other events and sports day. Please try and borrow if you don’t have anything in that colour to reduce buying new items.

On the last day of each term we always ask the children to wear non-uniform to celebrate the end of a term and to raise vital funds for the school. This time we will be collecting donations so that we can buy some lovely books to support next terms topic and some much needed glue sticks and white board pens. There is no requirement to donate but we are always extremely grateful if you can spare a small amount such as £1.

    Thanks for your support.

  • Term 2 quick updates

    Thu 17 Oct 2019

    Term 2
    Day 1 Monday 4th November

    Under the Stars Topic
To launch our topic of Under the Stars which will be focusing on immersing the children in rich stories and drama we will be holding a story telling day and would like the children to come to school in nightwear such as pyjamas and onesies. These need to be practical and thy should wear shoes not slippers and be able to go to the toilet easily!

    Day 2 Tuesday 5th November
Pantomime in school - Jack and the Beanstalk
To continue with the storytelling theme we have booked the fabulous theatre company we used last year to bring to life the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Last year we were all wowed by the Panto at school and it really did feel like a proper visit to the theatre so we hope you won’t mind paying for this. You should see a payment request via the new school app of £3.60 per child. We will not make any profit from this event and will just be covering the cost of the production.

    Thanks.
